Our Story

Many sell wine, few source as we do. Our speciality is wines with a difference and our quest started in 1975 in Burgundy, with a wonderful discovery – the “Clos de Lupé”, the only vineyard within the town of Nuits-St.-Georges yet denied that noble name for being on the wrong side of the road. Thus, a delightful elegant wine, at a humble price.

Over the years, we have persistently worked to live up to our name by carefully putting together a diverse selection of wines from independent growers and small estates which all share one great thing in common: an unfailing passion for their “terroir”, a dedication which dictates both quality and quantity. They do not produce volume; they make distinctive wines with great character and finesse which are designed to give pleasure and satisfaction when married with appropriate cuisine.

Our quest is never ending for, every year, new winemakers emerge fresh from learning the latest technologies and keen to put them into practice in the family vineyards. But, and this is the critical point, such application is built upon their family’s intimate knowledge of their vines and their terroir. A few to illustrate:

Albéric Bichot, head of Maison Albert Bichot, founded in 1831and now with domains in all the regions of Burgundy, including our beloved Clos de Lupé and the Châeau Gris, a 1er Cru Nuits-St.-Georges where he also produces a white wine.

Jean-Michel Vache who, nature permitting, produces both red and white Vacqueyras from Grenache with Noble Rot. The red, amazingly rich, fruity and spicy; the white, often just one barrel for the year, fresh, clean and luscious. A new first from 2023 is the new AC Gigondas Blanc, from his vineyard of Clairette planted in 1920.

Pascal Lucin who produces around 4,000 bottles of Clos Louie each year from vines planted in the family vineyard in Castillon back in the 1850s. The clos was untouched by the phylloxera, has been

bio-dynamic since 2001 and the grapes are still trodden by foot.

Louis Bovard, of Cully in Switzerland, who grafted Sauvignon Blanc onto old Chasselas root stock to produce one of the “World’s Top 10 most interesting wines” – voted by the Jury Découverte in 2005

Gialdi Brivio, of Ticino in Switzerland, possibly the “King of Merlot”.

He produces White, Rosé and Red. His top Red, Platinum, actually beat the legendary Ch. Petrus in a blind tasting!

Les Frères Pardon of Beaujeu whose family have been producing excellent Beaujolais wines since 1820. They faithfully maintain a vineyard in Fleurie planted in 1902 by their Great Grandfather, Hugo,

a wine of amazing depth and richness.

You are just a CLICK away from discovering a world of such wines.

We bid you,
